Psalm 118

¹Give thanks to the Lord,^(A) for he is good;^(B)
his love endures forever.^(C)

²Let Israel say:^(D)
“His love endures forever.”^(E)

Psalm 118:14-24

New International Version

¹⁴The Lord is my strength^(A) and my defense^[a];
he has become my salvation.^(B)

¹⁵Shouts of joy^(C) and victory
    resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand^(D) has done mighty things!^(E)
¹⁶    The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;
    the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
¹⁷I will not die^(F) but live,
    and will proclaim^(G) what the Lord has done.
¹⁸The Lord has chastened^(H) me severely,
    but he has not given me over to death.^(I)
¹⁹Open for me the gates^(J) of the righteous;
    I will enter^(K) and give thanks to the Lord.
²⁰This is the gate of the Lord^(L)
    through which the righteous may enter.^(M)
²¹I will give you thanks, for you answered me;^(N)
    you have become my salvation.^(O)

²²The stone^(P) the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone;^(Q)
²³the Lord has done this,
    and it is marvelous^(R) in our eyes.
²⁴The Lord has done it this very day;
    let us rejoice today and be glad.^(S)

The Beginning

1 In the beginning^(A) God created^(B) the heavens^(C) and the earth.^(D) ²Now the earth was formless^(E) and empty,^(F) darkness was over the surface of the deep,^(G) and the Spirit of God^(H) was hovering^(I) over the waters.

³And God said,^(J) “Let there be light,” and there was light.^(K) ⁴God saw that the light was good,^(L) and he separated the light from the darkness.^(M) ⁵God called^(N) the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.”^(O) And there was evening, and there was morning^(P)—the first day.

⁶And God said,^(Q) “Let there be a vault^(R) between the waters^(S) to separate water from water.” ⁷So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it.^(T) And it was so.^(U) ⁸God called^(V) the vault “sky.”^(W) And there was evening, and there was morning^(X)—the second day.

⁹And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place,^(Y) and let dry ground^(Z) appear.” And it was so.^(AA) ¹⁰God called^(AB) the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters^(AC) he called “seas.”^(AD) And God saw that it was good.^(AE)

¹¹Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation:^(AF) seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.^(AG)” And it was so.^(AH) ¹²The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds^(AI) and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.^(AJ) ¹³And there was evening, and there was morning^(AK)—the third day.

¹⁴And God said, “Let there be lights^(AL) in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night,^(AM) and let them serve as signs^(AN) to mark sacred times,^(AO) and days and years,^(AP) ¹⁵and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.^(AQ) ¹⁶God made two great lights—the greater light^(AR) to govern^(AS) the day and the lesser light to govern^(AT) the night.^(AU) He also made the stars.^(AV) ¹⁷God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, ¹⁸to govern the day and the night,^(AW) and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.^(AX) ¹⁹And there was evening, and there was morning^(AY)—the fourth day.

The Resurrection Body

³⁵But someone will ask,^(A) “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?”^(B) ³⁶How foolish!^(C) What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.^(D) ³⁷When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. ³⁸But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.^(E) ³⁹Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. ⁴⁰There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. ⁴¹The sun has one kind of splendor,^(F) the moon another and the stars another;^(G) and star differs from star in splendor.

⁴²So will it be^(H) with the resurrection of the dead.^(I) The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;^(J) ⁴³it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory;^(K) it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; ⁴⁴it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.^(L)

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. ⁴⁵So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”^[a];^(M) the last Adam,^(N) a life-giving spirit.^(O) ⁴⁶The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.^(P) ⁴⁷The first man was of the dust of the earth;^(Q) the second man is of heaven.^(R) ⁴⁸As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.^(S) ⁴⁹And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man,^(T) so shall we^[b] bear the image of the heavenly man.^(U)
